Each year CETA holds its Southern High School Theatre Festival (HSTF) during Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend, January 13 – 15 in 2011. The three-day festival, held in Anaheim at Servite High School, offers countless opportunities for high school students and their teachers. Highlights of the festival include:

NEW THIS YEAR: The August Wilson Monologue Competition

Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles (CTG) is proud to partner with California Educational Theatre Association in presenting the August Wilson Monologue Competition. The competition is designed to preserve the works of this Pulitzer Prize winning African American author, bring his works to a new generation, and provide opportunities for students to learn and practice the craft of acting through monologue performances. Students in 10th, 11th and 12th grade from Los Angeles, Ventura, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino Counties are eligible to perform a 2-3 minute monologue of their choosing from one of the plays in August Wilson’s Century Cycle. The top 15 finalists from CETA’s High School Theatre Festival will participate in master classes with CTG and compete in a public competition in March. Three winners from CTG’s competition will receive cash prizes and the opportunity to compete in the National Finals on Broadway at the August Wilson Theatre in May.

Registration for August Wilson Monologue Festival is due December 1, 2011. CONTACT Gai Jones with questions.
